SO as the title already tells, this topic is about the GDB for iOS 7.

 

I searched a bit around the internet if someone already has GDB for iOS 7, with no goals achieved.

 

But while I searched, I found this:

A working GNU Debugger on iOS >= 4.3

 

People know that the gdb package coming from Cydia is broken since 4.3.

 

But here is a simple way to have a working gdb running on your iOS device : use the one from the Apple SDK !

 

Prerequisites :

- a jailbroken iOS >= 4.3 device

- OpenSSH should be installed on the iOS device and should listen for connections

- an OSX machine with the iOS SDK >= 4.3 installed

 

How to :

- remove the gdb package from Cydia

- do the following in the OSX terminal :

 

cd /tmp

cp /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/Developer/usr/libexec/gdb/gdb-arm-apple-darwin .

lipo -thin armv7 gdb-arm-apple-darwin -output gdb

nano entitlements.xml

 

- paste the following to the OSX terminal :

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

        <key>com.apple.springboard.debugapplications</key>

- save the file by doing CTRL + X, then 'Y', then 'ENTER'

 

- now do the following in the OSX terminal :

 

ldid -Sentitlements.xml gdb

scp gdb [email protected]<iOS Device IP Address>:/usr/bin/

 

- GDB is now installed to your iOS device.

I bet that this method was used to obtain the gdb for iOS 5 & 6, too.

Correct me if I am wrong ofc.

 

So I request someone to try this method for me (us all), as I only can emulate OS X 10.8.3 on my VMWare on Win7, and the latest SDK requires 10.8.4 at least.

 

I hope I don't post ♥♥♥♥♥♥ here, that everyone knows is wrong already, forgive me if so.

I think that GDB won't work on iOS 7 even with that method.

- Why?

- Apple switched to LLDB with iOS 7.

 

So I think someone needs to port LLDB to iPhone.

Maybe, I'm not sure, but iRastignac did post a tweet saying "iPhone 5S + Rasticrac 3.0.8 = ?"
So maybe he did get LLDB in the end... not sure.

Yeah, GDB was removed from from the iOS 7 SDK and it won't return. Rastignac will need to move to LLDB, unfortunately I can't find it on my Mac or in CLT but I imagine there would be a good place to look.

Bumping this topic, as we managed to get GNU Debugger work on iOS7. It also works with the latest Rasticrac.

Please add our new repo http://theinc.ipastore.me to test it, but at the moment some things are tested, so the repo is empty yet.
It should be all done by tomorrow.

We know about this issue and are working hard to solve it.

The problem is that we can't connect our repo manager atm as he now is still asleep I guess.
